Wrong Floor Review

Author - John Stone

Here we have a first attempt at a IF game by an author using Twine! Usually, games created by first-timers have issues, which are usually first evident with the formatting.

The background certainly isn't as bad as the background used in the Twine Story game, which made me see blue after-images for an hour after completing it. Anything is better than the default Sugarcane theme, which just looks plain and empty.

As for the story, we start off by waking up on a Monday morning for a normal, boring day at the office. Upon exiting your apartment room, you notice that you are actually in a hospital...

Players can choose whether to participate in the strange incidents that occur in the hospital, or to ignore everything that happens and attempt to escape the area. Half of the incidents that occur are interesting; the choices are non-linear and branch out in different directions, but in the other half of the choices, I found the storyline uninteresting and dreary.

Throughout Wrong Floor, I encountered a good number of spelling mistakes, seemingly due to a lack of play-testing before release. Some of these occurrences are minor, but enough to be noticed by most IF players.

Wrong Floor took me 5 minutes on my first try to complete the game. It was a little disappointing to then discover that Wrong Floor is still under construction, which classifies it as a work in progress. Nothing wrong here, but a completed game is normally what is expected on IFDB...except in a specific case of a serialized work like 18 Rooms to Home. Of course, unless it is mentioned that the game is a Work-In-Progress on its description.

Summary: Decent for a first-time effort, unfinished status and numerous unchecked typos lowers the score significantly..

Verdict - 5/10
